THE QUESTION IS WHY

The city will celebrate the opening of its Visitor Center today.

A ribbon cutting will be held at 4 p.m. at the center, housed in the Nansemond County Courthouse, 524 N. Main Street, a news release says.
A tour of the center will follow the ceremony.

The center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Perhaps, now that City Hall has a permanent home, they will tell us how much of our taxes goes to fund this operation,  and how can anyone determine the financial return?

"The center is within easy walking distance from the Suffolk Conference Center, Riddick's Folly House Museum, restaurants and shoppes."

Well maybe an easy walk to Riddick's Folly (a hundred feet)but this is 2010 and if there was a tourist she would want a moving sidewalk or a train. Your news letter states the old court house has been "repurposed." Is that what it means when one spends a million to restore a building?

That's a neat little trick the girls have going in the Visitor Center. Coffee and sandwiches all day. No interuptions during the oppenhours by inquisitive persons looking to buy tickets for shows at the, get this, Cultural Center.

Why don't you clowns lay off the Visitor Center? Pick on something important like the budget of the Cultural Center, the only place in Suffolk with a more than sufficient parking lot, attractive too, and a fountain. "IS" will give you all the space you need to critique and criticise either of these lossing propositions. Why doesn't someone praise these two money makers?

The picture in the Sufferin News has the caption of "Cynthia" Ferguson as being a member of the EDA. What qualifications garner her this position? Are there some dots here that are are connected?

How anyone could justify the two white-elephants in Suffolk, this project anf the SCCA as good money making deals for the citizen is either employed there or just off the boat!

This is not what we need for a million dollars! Time to fire these people and hire more policemen. Where are the priorities here? Suffolk loses again!

In the King's or Queen's court, the "Clowns" were the only what for th epeople to try to rebute the powerful and live. It is unfortunatly the same way in fuedal Suffolk, were it is great sport to defile anyone that does not agree with all that is done in the name of government! So wear the bade and name of a "Clown" with pride, as it is the only monicor that defines one that speaks out in our backward system.

This project is a prime example of government waste at its best. The most effective thing that could be done is to close the entire "Tourisum" clan down and find a more productive use for the money saved, or even give it back to the people that pay taxes to derive it! To try to claim a false statement that it is good for the community, glosses over the cost to the community or loss of valuable resources. I would rather see a boat ramp and recreation access built for that money that many would use, rather than a "White-Elephant", which we have to many of in proud Suffolk!
