Good question…why should Chuckatuck citizens vote for Mike Duman. He gave me four good answers, not promises, his serious intentions.
“I will encourage and promote business development and ASSIST existing businesses. It is critical we continue to attract small commercial development to reduce the tax burden on our citizens. I will focus on small business and entrepreneurial start-ups relying on 30 years of business experience and time on Suffolk’s EDA.
I will work to maintain a low tax rate by spending most tax dollars on core government services, public services, utilities, and education. I will insist we consider “needs before wants.”
I am a firm believer in open government. I will foster an environment and establish lines of communications to insure interested citizens have access to city information. I will further establish that city employees are accommodating and accountable.
I have had many years of business experience dealing with the public and making thousands of transactions.. I have also made numerous personnel and business decisions. I believe I am uniquely qualified to make practical, sensible and logical determinations that will benefit the citizens of Suffolk.

Mike Duman is both a thoughtful and well qualified person to seat in a position of leadership on our City Council. I would hope that all thinking and reasoning members of our fine community can and will support him in his endevors to serve our commuity further, as the next member of Council.
It is your time to make a difference and vote for the right person. I respectfully ask that all those eligable to vote in Chuckatuck, please support and vote for my friend Mike Duman for Council...
Regards,
Roger A. Leonard
Suffolk...
Mike those were very nice fluffy carefully couched PC answers. You never said HOW you will do what you say, nor HOW will you convince the other eight on council to follow your lead. You never said a word on the Kings Highway Bridge that hits at the heart and wallets of your borough's constituents. Not a word about the size of government, welfare for the wealthy, improving education, and why government forceably takes our tax dollars and gives them away to non-profit organizations.
Are you are afraid your words will be used against you by your opponent or by your constituents? Either way you will be held accountable. Cuckatuck needs a Councilman that's brave and bold enough to take the high ground and hold it on issues facing our community. If this is the best deal you can offer us, then I'm taking the cash for clunkers offer at Martin.
I would like to get "Lets get real Mikey", explain again just what it is the Ms. Martin is selling for his vote? I have yet to even hear a peep from her.
This guy or gal sounds like a plant for Martin and it speaks to how little she has to really offer. When will we hear from her? I have seen the backroom methods of Ms. Martin and can do without her ways. We already have several on council that play that game and do not need another.
So I restate it all again, what is it that your candidate, Ms. Martian offer us for putting her into the seat?
Any answers at all?
Anon 3:46 apparently cannot read a telephone number or loves limelight. Mike Duman clearly indicated that if you want more answers just pick up the phone.
I am shocked at the level of support for Duman on IS. He hasn't really been critical of the mayor or current council, and he has kept a low profile so far in the campaign.
If it was anyone else - anyone at all, IS would be vetting them hard before offering such an outspoken endorsement.
But Duman hasn't really promised anything out of the ordinary or propsed anything that would be against the will of the mayor and her allies.
Duman will become a more reliable vote for Johnson's majority - more so than Joe Barlow has been. Make no mistake, the new "A" team will be composed of Johnson, Parr, Barclay, and Duman - giving her 4 automatic votes, 5 if Gardy wins.
The "B" team will continue to be composed of Milteer, Brown, Bennet, and potentially JB Varney.
Caroline Martin, whom I believe to be a Republican if the rumors are correct, needs to try to ride the GOP wave of 2010.
Sounds like your analysis has no place for Mike Duman at all. I think Mike may just be the spark we need to ignite some discussion or more. I can not believe that any other candiate has the abilities that Mike has.
Maybe a day or so before the election, we will hear from them too? or not? or never?
Where is the Duman-spark at the EDA? Does anyone have any examples? Just when Suffolk needs it most the spark is quickly snuffed out by the other nare-do-wells on that so called authority just like those on council. After November will we see the spark ignite a fire of progress or will it just smolder under a pile of wet leaves.
I certainly hope that Mr. Duman will be a person that will represent all of the people that live in the Chuckatuck area. Our current representative appears to represent the "good ole boys" and has refused to insist that the needs of the community must be put before the "wants" of a few people. We do not have a Kings Highway bridge because a few people didn't want to block their view of the river and wanted to roller skate on the road that now goes no where. The cheaper and fastest solution to the problem with the old bridge was not good enough for the few and has had to be dropped from consideration. In other words, the "good ole boy network" has told the larger majority that their vote doesn't matter. We all should get out and push for the change needed in Chuckatuck!
Sorry but these "thoughtful answers" are just political double speak. He states not one single thing he will or will not do. Lets here some specifics, not some meaningless political speeches.
OK OK I cant help myself but here goes. In his own words dirct from this post.
“I will encourage and promote business development and ASSIST existing businesses. It is critical we continue to attract small commercial development to reduce the tax burden on our citizens. I want to ask the following:
DOES THIS INCLUDE DOWNTOWN?
Well of couse it does not include development for downtown. That is the duty of the big Charles Parr, the defender of downtown to take on. Aren't you happy after more tha four years of his local leadership on council for downtown? He does know how to make money, look at how much he has made for himself with his actions on council for his own property behind my house on Turlington Road!
