LET US HEAR THE CITY'S DEFENSE

In a recent post IS team member Debra Wahlstrom charged the city with using a worthless report form used to judge RFPs submitted to the city. In this case the charge was for the way Obici restoration RFPs were treated by the city administration. The charges were further substantiated by comments, three in fact, pointing out the city's useless report form, perhaps a deliberate way to escape conversation with the those who submit RFPs. If true these are serious charges. We hope youu are following that Post and comments. They are worth a read and could be very important whenever a resident deals with the city. We would like to hear from the city officials. We know that more than 45,000 computers have logged on to IS.

We have already heard from you that whomever wrote the comments to Wahlstrom's Post should be a member of the IS team. Great idea unless he is of more value unnamed. We thank him for his revealing comments.

I also have read the article by Ms Whalstom and the commenter that sounds very well informed of how it works in Suffolk. We have a real problem here and it needs to be addressed. We need more poeple to come out and speak of what they know and believe, in how our city is being run into the ground.

As a recent retiree of this city, I can attest that all that has been said is well founded and accurate. The City Manager is a vindictive person and is under the control of the mayor and her minion on council. I enjoyed working for Miles Standish and Steve Herbert, but dreaded coming in under the present manager. They were men that you could count on and would stand up to the political pin heads when necessary. We no longer have that in the spineless staff leaders now in the big paying jobs. We pay more now than ever and for less result and professional conduct. Just look at the handeling of the Obici-House RFP for the latest example of how arrogant and unprofessional things are getting done. Then there is the mayor who will follow two things, money and power. She is the most vile of people in how she runs our city and I have not figured out how we all were so dumb as to vote for her as mayor. We need help or our city is going down the tubes!

And just who are the individuals who use the unfair city form to determine merit of the RFP. Are they educated sufficiently in the project under discussion. Surely the mayor and city manager should not be involved. But I suspect they may be the only ones to decide up or down. Who at city hall is qualilfied? The public has a right to know.

It depends upon what you define as "qualified" in a similar nature to how a past president minced the definition of what "is" is to mean. If a predetermined outcome is the objective which it clearly is, then the only quality one would need would be to be a compliant boob to takt the desired outcome laid out by our fine mayor and manager (sic), and to then defend the desired outcome against any and all logic stated otherwise. There is no defense for such sloopy stewardship or management of public assets and by direct attachment, no defense thereof. To validate such factual description, one only has to look at recent decisions made under the tutilage of our present mayor and manager that we jsut do not seem to get clear of even whey there is such good reason to do so. By example, the decission to locate the Human Services Building to the the west end of town and then to the "Fairgrounds" site, then attempt to use such to increase development in an area where a councilor/funeral home owner who always supports the mayor and even property held by a spouse shows an agenda if nothing else does. Then there are the many unknown issues that attach to the deal for the approval of the center-point project. Who do you think did all the lawyer work for the deal and who do you think did some of the real estate work and who do you think could be counted upon for a favorable vote on council for the rezoning approval that made it all work? Names will be named, but if you are aware about how this works, the court record is clear who did what and who got paid what for services rendered?. A defense you say, what defense could there be for using the trust of the people for the monetary gain of one's self or a family memeber or friend? I was privy to read a letter from another, about the use of such positional authority a few years ago when some real estate assessments were changed by the then assessor for some, at the request of political actors, in direct opposition to the clear laws of the commonwealth, but again, due to positional authority held by some on our council the fine commonwelath's attorney would take no action even with strong indications of fault. Such politically driven ations are the norm in Suffolk, so do not look for a defense of such actions as you have discribed, as none will be forthcoming to address such undesired attentions for such political abuses.

Another line of reason to pursue is: who will hold anyone of these creatures accountable and by direct attachment, demand a reational or defense of such conduct so betraying of the public trust? Surely it will not be done by the electorate in Suffolk if history of such is any indication, since we seem always to go deaf, blind, and dumb when we vote the same cast of characters into office time after time and with the same undesired results.

So you will hear no defense, as a defense will obviously have no merit or standing related to the facts, as the facts are something that will never see the light of day!

A well defined reponse to the lack of any rational defense of the actions taken by this city and the staff. All this makes me ashamed of how our city staff and reps deal with our busniess. They have no shame so we all will carry it for them.

still waiting to hear that defense by the city progs. what no one want to explain why things are run by the torglidites in city hall? it would seem to all that an explaination should be given to smooth the waters of discontent that are rising.

the real reason is there is no excuse or defense at all for how they now run this city. since miles standish and steve herbert left, we have had nothingless than the uncompetint and selfish in charge and that is just how it is. so there will be on defense or explaination as none is possible that makes any sense. the only real need we have is to get rid of the bums in charge and bring in new ideas.

The defense? Maybe behind closerd doors.

You are right, the only discussion of a defense of such a policy has already occured behind closed doors and deals made to keep it so. I wonder who got what to get into line on this policy? How little did Milteer go for and how much did Brown get? The real deal went to help Parr so he can claim such for his re-election coming and the rest either did not care or just helped their friends.

Want to bet that there will be another closed door meting on Wednesday about Obici Home? These people are really just not living on the same planet as the rest of us. Mayor, time to accept that preserving this historic home is better done than not. What is your plan? If you don't have one but to tear it down, then let Susan do her thing to save it however they can. Why do thye have to have all the answers now when you don't either?
