Now this is important, something to argue about. We imagine business owners and high city officials will long confab the city regulations for those old fashion sidewalk signs that can be read from both sides, are portable, fold up, carried easily, and plopped down any where as long as there is eight feet of clear sidewalk for pedestrians to walk by while they study today’s luncheon menu or the price of that cute pair of shoes waiting inside. The Downtown Business Association will wrestle with what could be a problem, or an innovation depending upon your concept of marketing in good taste. An assistant director of planning will be the featured speaker at the DBA meeting, which begins at 3 p.m. at Bank of America, 210 W. Washington St. (The assistant’s assistant is tied up and can’t be there) He will explain the 35pages of regulations: size, color blending with street scene, quality of materials, the hundred-dollar permit, etc. Most important: the application must be reviewed by no less than the City Manager.

This is just more great news for downtown's struggling small businesses, another obstacle and cost. Where has Andy been the past weeks? Is this is the most important subject for downtown's businesses, enforcing sandwich signs ordinances? Is this more important than the increase in property taxes or garbage pick up fees? As a participant at several DBA meeting, people like Andy but consider the DBA a public relations function of the city administration. Sorry Andy, I'm not interested and not going.
Bob: Is this sign you used as an example a hint that the city is considering building a sidewalk on the eastside of North Main from the Kimberly Bridge out to Duman's business?
The only thing this city manager reviews is her 401K, and employment contract. Judging by her latest hairdo she must be auditioning for the Lying King at the SCCA. You know times are tough these days even for a city manager trying to make ends meet.
We have a mayor and a CM for North Suffolk. When will we get them for Suffolk the city?
Well at least they have found something that our city manager is qualified to do. She has failed at almost every other aspect of her job, like BUDGETS! This is rediculious and seems to be why it is no longer a good time to live in Suffolk. As a business downtown, this shows why there is a real issue with houw dysfunctional our city administration has become. and they always try to call this leadership and good management?I think not Toto!
