One way to cut HRT bus costs is to do business with someone else. There are private bus services available. Leaving HRT could save $233,000 said the CM. She suggests booting HRT and try out I-Ride, run by Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia. HRT is dropping two routes in Suffolk to save money for them. We can do that. Suffolk’s buses are among the worst performers in the HRT system. The average subsidy per ride throughout the system is $2.23. Time to trim those costs. But you are going to do what to us dear Suffolkians?
"We are going to charge you plenty for picking up your garbage even if you don't have any. How's that for a starter? After that maybe we add a late charge, or wrong pickup position punitive fee?
Eventually a charge for having a great and wonderful City for you to live in. Perhaps another for you having the benefit of living being under the watchful eye of a wonderful and caring City Manager?

How many of you are up for a show of hands to at least show our continuing concern in the direction the City is leaning?? Maybe our City leaders need to be reminded in force that they represent us. I'm willing to be there...with signs if necessary.
Public Information Meeting on Proposed FY12 Operating & Capital Budget

So once again the city administration will foist upon the public yet another scam, this time it's Trash For Cash. The program initiated from a questionable 3000 paying participants now becomes a citywide perks for recycling. The 2012 election is just around the corner so council incumbents will need every campaign dollar they can wrest from their Tight Fisted Constituents to holdoff their challengers.
Sorry it will never happen in Suffolk because you can't deal with a Council like this one. The three Blacks should vote against any new expenses and demand cuts. Then find two whites with a conscience. Get serious about position cuts. We are in deep trouble proven by spending even a dollar to restore the courthouse, continue the Tourist Department, feed the SCCA, and pay such high wages. And nail us with garbage pickup fees. You folks don't listen to anyone. We are cutting back even on food .
Why bother, suffolk will just sumber on. This has always been the way so pay up and keep you mouth shut.
At least in P-Town they know how to complain about high taxes. I was at the meeting and it was packed and the statements to the leadership was profound and clear.
Why is it so hard to get the citizens of Suffolk moving like this? Are they really asleep at the switch, or at least the button in the voting booth?
perhaps because P-Towns tax rate is 20% higher than Suffolks's even with the proposed tax incease by Sufffolk....
I would like to see just one citizen stand up and ask City Council why none of the suggestions provided by the citizens have been incorporated into the budget. They asked for suggestions; suggestions were provided; they submitted the same budget they wanted in the first place. I would like to see one person direct a question to the Duman and ask why he is supporting this budget when he ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility. How can you call substantially increasing expenditures in a time of declining revenues responsible?
One of the proposed ordinances is amending the Vehicle License Fee. Does anyone know how much?
The annointed ones on council are looking to dig deep into our pockets again and this year they will not be shy about doing it agressively. There is really only one question and that is how to stop this madness? It is not just unreasonable that they are doing this, but even more so because we all voted to put these people into office. So if you see your bank payment go up some or have to write a bigger check twice a year for your homes, look in the mirror to see who made it happen. That would be YOU! If you want to change that, look in the mirrior again before yo vote for these people and make it your mission to make change at the polls. Until that happens, you will not be able to brake the cycle of rising taxes to support more spending, to support more need for taxes to raise taxes and on and on and on.
A whopping 2 people turned out for the budget forum last night(4/14), so city council is getting the message. The message they heard from 99.999% of the populace staying quiet and staying home is: Go ahead and tax us, we don't care.
Believe me, after floating their trial balloon of 6 cent mil rate increase and 18.5/ mo garbage fee increase and getting practically NO OPPOSITION, they will probably enact these proposed tax increases.
Bend over ladies and gentlemen, the tax man cometh.
What person in their right mind would waste their time to dialogue with Ann Seward? She has a well earned reputation of stretching the truth and is a functionary of the city administration. Whatever they tell her to do or say she does. There's not a shred of integrity in our city representatives and it shows.
If council intends to raise the mil-rate and add a disposal charge, then go ahead and do it. They will reap the crop the sow November 2012.
SGC the Medusa of local modern politics. We've seen the agenda and we most all disagree.Suffolkians scream loud yet she refuses to hear us.She thinks she knows better of what we are about, she burns our tax dollars as we suffer her bout. This woman should be working for Obama. She is a walking middle finger.
