WHAT TO DO WITH BULLIES

WHAT  TO  DO
If you were to have asked me back in the forties the answer was simple: expel them, boot them off school grounds, write and phone parents if they had one or more. But this came after the principal had pulled him by one ear to his office where the warnings about such behavior included a few hard slaps across the mouth. Then they sat there until the local policeman and a parent joined the scene. If this happened too often the bully faced reform school where bullies often tested bullies. I remember coming home after the war and looking for the thugs that had bullied me. They had grown to be much smaller. But how do they handle bullies, male or female in 2011? We understand that in spite of laws to the contrary students have been guilty of carrying knives and or guns. We don’t believe grabbing one of those malcontents by the ear would be productive. Perhaps a teacher will respond to this.

Bob. I am not a teacher but I am a parent and grand parent. Schools in America, generally, are a sorry lot, or are becoming a sorry lot. When you add in the special issues at inner city schools, they have become a disgrace. All of the problems in our schools are not the fault of government, but it plays a huge part. The irony is that schools seem to foster more bullying than ever before. The bigger issue is that the social engineers have no clue that they are the problem. All the liberals have done is teach kids that someone else will always solve their problems. In my day you eventually had to fight the bully. Today we need intervention, counseling and agencies to make sure were all perfect little citizens who fit in the mold like the government says. Wrong thinking in school is not allowed...They have taken this to the extreme, not that I feel such abuse should be tolerated. However, they have tied the hands of authority, how many parents threaten other parents or teachers for disciplining THEIR children when their little darlings misbehave? Parents are accused of abuse, teachers are restricted not that they should have all kinds of that power, but I remember being afraid of teachers.
All this is that government is attempting to take over the role of parents. How sad is that commentary? Remember this "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun." "I am looking to kick some a@@"
Having said all of this, Since we already treat children like little adults, it stands to reason that we treat adults like overgrown children. Sick, but true.

Someone give us the public school definition of what is a bully. Tell us who in the public school system is the official judge to determine who is a bully. Are academic achievers or the sport jocks considered bullies because they are student body leaders. Maybe we should all give the students the same grades in school. No one's precious self-esteem is hurt. Everyone graduates the same time and has the same job waiting for them as they exit the podium with a photocopied diploma in hand.

The public school system should stick to teaching our children the four R's the last being Reality. There is a place in our society for everyone including bullies. We can no longer afford to pay for 12 years of daycare for someone's brat. If they cannot behave in the classroom they are gone...period end of sentence.

What about the big kid with no common sense that loves to pick a fight, push smaller kids around. Pull girls hair, knock the books out of her hands, a mean nasty kid and you see it all the time. What is your role in this drama...lecture him, threaten him or knock him on his butt and take the consequences?

That's a tough one, guess bullies must be unique to the 21 century social engineers, or is this an excuse to grab control by those endorsing the government nanny state education system.
Years ago the school bully was faced down by his or her contemporaries or shown the door. In some instances there were corrective measures taken after school. Usually they were gone for one reason or another well before graduating.

Allowing your child to be socially engineered weak willed passifists afraid to speak out will make them ideal followers for bullies in government and terrorists. Only when individuals stand up and say NO do you really have freedom. There is a farm field in Pennsylvannia with a monument to such people that died on 911.

Well this is one way of culling out gangasta blacks, rednecks, goths and skinheads from the rest of the student body. Gradually a split will ocurr between the meek and the socially uneasy school administrator identified bullies. If the programs being touted in the school system become a reality, we will eventually see socially segregated schools. Look as who is promoting these programs and you will understand.

Veterans must recall a hard a-s Sargeant that got you through bootcamp and perhaps a firefight or two. In today's PC world they would be called bullies and be treated social outcasts. I still call them heros.
