EVOLUTION

In the beginning there was nothing and trash covered the land. Then the Gods slowly awoke and spoke to us saying, “This place is a dump, we’re going to pick up your trash and garbage for free, one of the benefits we provide in exchange for your property tax. So we stopped dumping our “unreusables” in ditches, along highways, out the car window, we had been good at keeping home and site neat and clean. When some idiot invented trucks governments put thoughts together and the world was clean again, except for what blew out of the trucks on windy days. And it was free for Suffolkians for years until environmentalists invaded earth and recycling was invented. People then paid to have their “choice” trash taken away or were free to cart it to very special places giving them a very special feeling. Evolution decreed we move on from there and our gods awoke, finally realizing free won’t last. Over the heads of the masses an edict proclaimed, pay now and get used to it, we will hold the money for you. And the recyclers are now happy because everyone must join the force against evil waste. But what the cost, is it $18.50 monthly for trash, plus $12. month for recycling, totaling $366 annually? Or is Seward still toying with the numbers?

Johnson(Hillary)Guffe(Michelle) Seward(Nancy) will never think that government will ever be over funded.

What is the offset savings the city pockets by charging $18.50 per month for garbage removal. The harsh reality if you take this into consideration the mil-rate is going way up along with fees and charges.

I have taken my recycling to one of the drop off sites in the past. I didnt think it was worth $12a month to have it picked up. While I am not opposed to city wide recycling, I dont understand how they already have agreed it will be done by the group which has the current contract(TFC). When the city was requesting the proposals for those who wanted to have curbside recycling, the recyclers were not expecting it to be everyone in the city. Now that it will be I would think there would be a rate lower than $12.00 per household that could be negotiated. I dont understand why there is not a new request for proposals being sent out. If I am wrong about TFC please let me know. While papers aren't always right, I am confident I read where we would have the same recycler that is doing it now. With every household being covered it should be a much lesser rate than the 2000 or so who signed up.

Why pay when you can dump? Look for the city ditches to fill to the brim this year. Wooded areas, vacant properties even used car lots will be targets of the dump and run crowd. Public Works are rubbing their hands together rejoicing at all the new jobs this will create.

4:11 Devo you forgot to include parking lots of funeral homes, real estate offices and law firms as likely places to dump.

Assume 23,283 households and using a conservative number like $12. per month we arrive at about 5 million dollars SPSA was “giving” the city of Suffolk because use of the dump was free to our citizens. And our Suffolk leaders knew the day was coming when the free use of the dump stopped. So why wasn’t some of that money budgeted, set aside to grow until the time we would have to pay? There should have been an administration including a Council that was wise enough to set aside some of that free stuff and pile it up for the day they knew was coming. It was certainly easy to calculate that sinking fund and let it grow toward the day that our long ensconced Council members knew would come and has arrived. But not being competent enough to look down the SPSA road even though they new the day would arrive and it has. But, you will pay, not those that should, content that it was free. Hand it off to those younger folks like you who have allowed the National government to pile up trillions for your kids to pay. Thank those still in power, like city managers, council members, like Seward, previous mayors and Councilmen who covered their eyes and ears. Thank professionals like SC Glenn and Davenport, and Seward who surely knew about the nasty curve in the road. But they will play innocent.

It so exciting tonight to watch all those on city council explain away their vote. Hands waving in the air, eyeglasses perched on the bridge of their nose asking questions that have been fed by politocos because they don't have an original thought in their head except how to squeeze out weasel words. The village idiots with the linear family tree watching at home shaking their head and willing to dig ever deeper into their fast emptying wallets because someone told them they need to. But isn't it wonderful that we live in one of Americas 100 best cities to live in.

I have been watching the last few council meetings too and I am watching it right now. The question I have is who is the puppet and who is the puppet-master? I predict that they will fuss and huff and then not raise taxes at all, but will claim victory in our name and ask us all to re-elect them once again and like the dupps we are we will oblige them. Go figure.

It is great to see how hard they work at saying just the right thing to get more of our money and to make us feel better about it. Then you have all the slugs coming up to ask for even more for every committe under the sun. The only thing that was refreshing was to watch the lady and guy from the airport commission to have noisy airplanes fly over us at all hours of the day and night so they can add to the airport that no one uses. Why are we even spending money on this airport when it has so little use? IT would be funny if it was not so tragic!
