THERE GOES ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY

It is easy to understand why talks have shut down, perhaps permanently, between city officials and the Nansemnond Indians over 20 acres. Some sort of mental disease. Norfolk and Portsmouth own the large VALUABLE lakes in Suffolk, Chesapeake got Chesapeake Square because of our dithering, The Fighter Factory and the War Bird Museum end up drawing tourists in Virginia Beach. Oh, but we might one day have the Phoenix Bank that will bring millions of tourist dollars. Did I miss anything?

What's to stop the city and the tribe from continuing negotiations. Okay hard economic times are here but it will change for the better.

Knowing how politics works up on the dias the Tim Reid and Sandofa Festival organizers will not be happy with the city's financial participation this year. It must be because of tough economic times.

With all the recent racial Black aganinst White gaffes from the Obama Administration, DOJ and NAACP instead of following their lead two Suffolk Councilmen who happen to be Black, decided for pure economic reasons they would burn down (again) the hopes of the Nansemond Indian Village. Surprising Suffolk takes a different tact on racism, its now Black against Red. All this celebrating diversity is really something isn't it. When do they go after the Yellows and Tans?

“Given NITA’s assessment of the current economic climate and the lack of available funding to support the proposed concept of the Mattanock Town Project, the City is not in a position to recommend disposition of the property as requested in your letter of June 9,” Cuffee-Glenn wrote in a letter dated July 13.

To crush the scaled down proposal of Mattanock Town besides the negative vote of Bennett and Brown suggests something else caused the city manager to terminate negotiations. Was it a powerful neighboring farm or landowner? Was it the intent to develop the land to a housing development with a city park/marina?

The City Manager needs to explain why NITA's project was cancelled. There are simply too many holes in this story to accept what appears to be an almost offhand disregard for the cultural heritage of the Nansemond Indians. Like the good little foot soldier she is, Selena doesn't do anything like this without marching orders from above. Always remember; Truth is incontrovertible.

Let's hear from the Council Members that voted with Brown and Bennett to deny the Indian Village. We know why those two said "no." It was just to show they can, they have the "powa." They are very poor representatives and their stubborn refusal comes from their uncanny ability make the Black community as a whole look bad. I don't want one cent of my taxes to finance the Phoenix Bank. We gave them the new Social Services building for practical reasons. They have cost us enough. But I want to know the real reasoning of those who voted with them.

A fresh clean agenda without the burden of NITA for this year's slate of candidates from Chuckatuck. No need to worry about the bridge. Just play along and don't say a word wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

The follow up investigative report from the SNH will be coming sometime in the future. What a brave editorial staff we have here to protect the public interest.

We do not have a Mayor and Council with "Forked Tongue" they are "Two-Faced"!

Mayor Johnson made a big deal about supporting the Indian Village when she asked for our votes in her race for mayor and now seems to forget that clear commitment made! She even came to the POW-WOW to make her point. What a liar she is!

I have been mightily disapointed in her for sometime now, but this is the limit. I call upon all my fellow Suffolkians to run her out of town on a rail in the next election.

This is enough!

She acts no better that Brown and Bennett, but at least they are honest about playing politics, unlike her! LINDA, you have gone to far this time!

vetyeIf the Nansemond Indians want property that the city owns why don't they ask the city for permission to appraise the property and make an offer to buy it. The city should be willing to sell property for the right price, they should not be in the real estate business and should only own property necessary to conduct city business and should not give away property that they own.

Maybe if the city had been more patient and willing to work with NITA they could have done a rain dance and all off our troubles would have been washed away. A trip through the southside of town yesterday revealed more hard times for farmers. Driving down side roads there were miles of dessicated rows of corn and fields of withered bean and cotton. Lately we hear the JFCOM may also depart our city in a few years time. Coincidence, you decide.

Maybe JFCOM is going to leave as payback for the evil way our city is run!

I must state that I am ashamed to tell anyone that I live in Suffolk anymore. I have been here for over forty years and have not felt this way until Johnson and her boys took over. What punks.

Why refurbish the Phoenix bank...in its present condition it better represents the progress of the majority of the Black community under the leadership of the current and apparently permanent Council members who are actually paid for what they do not accomplish.
