QUAYLE NAMED FIRST CITIZEN

State Sen. Frederick M. Quayle has been named the 2011 First Citizen by the Suffolk ROTARY CLUBS. There’s the rub, probably a committee in each organization met in the corner of the room and decided it had to be someone, “Hey, how about Fred Quayle? Did anyone ask you? Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy, sense of humor, knows his job and a lot of people, wears only tailor made suits. Does his title have everything to do with it? Was Fred the only one that was astounded by the choice? I wonder what the folks in the rest of his jurisdiction think, Chesapeake, Franklin, Portsmouth, Hopewell, Isle of Wight, Prince George, South Hampton, and Surry County. How can he be much beneficial to Suffolk when spread so thin? Past named Suffolk Citizens make up an impressive list of well known and if that were the only criteria Fred had that nailed by 1992. He was due to win; his name appears on important Organization Board of Directors, such as the Cultural Center and of course a member of the Suffolk Rotary. Congratulations big guy, the people’s choice.

Our first citizen deserves to be the guest of honor at the downtown Christmas Parade. This year it will be at night with shops closed to prevent theft and police staff stretched to the limit at the busiest time of the year for crime, DUIs and accidents. Look for this special event to continue late into the evening as shop keepers dash to their vehicles with the days sales receipts while being chased by roving gangs of thugs. The parade experience will be filled with shrieks and shouts by the contribution of purse snatchers, wallet pickers, vandals, and spontaneous sidewalk boxing events. Knife slashing demonstrations one dark street over, is always a crowd pleaser if anyone is watching. As a bonus to those that can't make it, there will be the drug dealer parade of gleaming rotating chrome rimmed BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus and Cadillacs on the side streets as no police patrols will be around. Keep your sidearm ready and your checkbook open this is going to cost you one way or another.

Andy D. what are you thinking? You know better than anyone that parade viewers are not store shoppers. SCG name those businesses you said endorsed a night parade and we'll see if they are open that night. If you don't then this is really the kick-off event for Johnson's re-election campaign.

Selena to Andy, it's been a tough year and we need to cut down on expenses like your program. Andy to Selena, what do you want me to do for you.

Wonder how many churches will be out on the sidewalk selling goods during the Holiday Parade? What an example of blasphemy.
