NEPOTISM IS A STICKY SUBJECT

When I returned from the war in Europe the Chris Craft Corporation had promised a job for any returning veteran. My older brother was Plant Manager and said, “No.” But higher officials insisted the promise be kept. Is it nepotism if the Commonwealth Attorney hires the Commonwealth Treasurers’ wife? You can get an argument both ways. Especially when the lady is hired as a 13 on the Department scale and is suddenly moved to a 30 for reasons not quite clear. Council members decried the promotion because it just didn’t look right and you can guess what other employees thought. Our Council voted 7 to 1 against the move but was ignored. Council failed to summon the courage to say, “No” and requested services of a consultant who suggested a 27 rating was ample. But because you pay the salaries of all concerned we believe you have a right to an opinion. So, what say you?

When he was the State Attorney General, Governor elect Bob McDonnell could have fixed the problem of Suffolk Council funding the Commonwealth Attorney's Office. It would have prevented the Nepotism described in the Post and freed them to investigate the rife corruption in the city administration. However he didn't. It's too bad for all of us in Suffolk. Let the good times and fat paychecks keep coming in for those entitled by marriage or blood.

No surprise with this, it is the way things are done in Suffolk. "Feather your own Nest" should be our new city motto!

If the City Fathers and Moms wanted to do something about this it is quite easy. Just tell lawyer phil that if this stands the city will cut his allowance from the city by $100,000. Want to bet there would be a change?

There are just too many examples of this kind of self serving unleadership in Suffolk and people wonder why we are not happy with how the city is run. Go figure!

What councilmember voted in opposition? I'm going to write a check for his opponent's campaign committee right now.

I don't see why a former Belks employee and Childrens clothing retailer wouldn't make an outstanding servant of the Commonwealth Attorneys Office. After all she has as much familiarity with the law than any of them at that office. In the furture Mr. Ferguson could consider similarly qualified individuals from the IP paper mill or Smithfield Packing.

Wonder if she'll get a 401 Special K retirement package like Phil was crying about? Greed, greed, greed.

Mr. Phil,

Why did this happen? Who approved of this happening? Was there a request for such from another peer? How was this salary set and under what elements of review? Will the scope of this workers duties require such a salary? And does the resume and work history of this worker support this kind of salary?

Alot of questions, but we will most likely hear few answers as usual we are sure. So what will you do now to address this possible misstep?

I want to hear from Ms. Williams why she deserves to her position and salary. Ferguson whines and blathers but never answers a direct question concerning his management.

Maybe if one of the powerful lived in the Obici House, it could be saved. The problem the house is having is that no one that has local juice wants it saved, or has said so in public.

I say the easiest way to deal with such an issue is to cut the local contribution to Lawyer Phil's office by at least 25%. I bet he will come to realize that it is not his money to give away then! The other issue is to ask for an investigation by the Attroney General to see if a conspiricy was had between he and any other constitutional officer in Suffolk. Want to bet what that might find?
