LET IT REST A BIT

It is possible that “IS” has allowed the wind to whip and spread the grass fire surrounding the Obici Home opinions. We agree that the form used to decide whether or not and RFP has merit is not satisfactory any way you look at it. It is also not clear which individuals make the final call. And we agree persons who submit RFPs deserve answers spelling out why they did not past muster, perhaps a face to face open and transparent.

But as we look around and talk with the principals we find no previous or current plans to build a row of condos anywhere on the golf course. So, if you don’t mind lets drop it and give Mr. Roundtree a break. We find him to be a decent man with a true interest in Suffolk. If new evidence, genuine and fair, pops up that’s a different story. So far no one has produced evidence of any kind.

How could anyone, who has Suffolk's best interest at heart, want to have anything to do with tearing down the Obici House? I would love to know what happened to Mr. Roundtree's plan to incorporate the Obici House into his club house? (I saw the artist's rendering with my own two eyes, although it's not ideal it's better then completely demolishing the home). Also, why doesn't Mr. Roundtree have to produce his financial plan like everybody else? I can't imagine any bank is going to finance a building situated on a piece of leased land.

I ask you? How many citizens have been treated at Obici Hospital? How many individuals have been employed by Planters? How many organizations have received grants from the Obici Foundation? Can you imagine taking away all that Mr. Obici has given and will continue to give? Should it really be so horrific to save his home? Suffolk owes the man everything, he asked for nothing in return, people just do the right thing. For goodness sake SAVE HIS HOME!

If the SCCA doesn't have to produce a Business Plan before they milked Suffolk of millions then why should Mr. Rountree? Something smells about the way he obtained the rights to develop Sleepy Hole Golf Course. A brave reporter from a newspaper that shall not be named may investigate maybe a FOIA will be filed. One thing is for certain don't count on the Commonewelth Attorney to do anything but sit on his hands and button his lip.

One cannot be too sure about fire. There have been a spate of them lately. Many of undetermined causes or happen when a building is be restored. A very large home in Franklin being restored went up in flames a few years ago. Sadly all too often because of their age and constucted materials these older buildings are fully involved well before fire and rescue services arrive especialy late at night where the gate is closed and no hydrant or stand pipe sprinkler system. A 24 hour fire watch should be mandated.

What, let it rest a bit?! The ladies of Suffolk will not stand for it. As I write they are engaged in heated debate over magaritas, nachos, salsa and plates of overstuffed burritos. When it's all over the only winner to come of this will be Jenny Craig. Picante sauce with your Pepto Abismal anyone?
