OPINION PIECE IN SNH WORTH A READ

Rather than retype Pamela King”s admonishment of our Mayor Johnson we suggest you read it by clicking, free of cost, on the SNH website and read "Mayor shouldn't beg" in the opinion section.

Mayor shouldn't beg

Agreed! Council has asked for a new "process" to provide dollars to nonprofits even though we have an important piece of equipment we need to purchase. The money "stolen" from citizens for these nonprofits, just in 2009, is MORE THAN ENOUGH to purchase the truck NOW.

Hard decision for Council: Votes or a new brush fire truck?

I know I've said this before; Individual citizens should get to choose the nonprofits they want to support. There is NO provison in the Constitution to take money from my pocket and put it into the pockets of someone whom the Council thinks needs it more than I do.

In her letter to Randy Forbes, the mayor wrote, "The City of Suffolk has determined a major problem/risk exists with the inadequate number of wild land firefighting apparatus available to the citizens of Suffolk."

If a major problem and risk exists with this, then why isn't the City taking care of it on its own? Consider using the dollars you've earmarked for nonprofits to purchase this equipment that you have determined is a priority.

The opinion piece was kind to say the least if you know how Mayor has helped her lawyer husband make big bucks with her office. Just look into the center point project and you will see mayor's husband making big bucks when she and her friends on council approve the project. Most are afraid to say so becasue they fear being sued by lawyer husband, but it is still true!

When a brush fire takes a life, destroys property or crops perhaps then the Mayor will determine it prudent to purchase a truck over funding the non-profits like the SCCA's $450,000.

This has become a game for municipalities to beg for dollars from their federal legislators. They keep a list monitoring what was funded for which city and for how much. They completely lack the common sense to understand who's money they are spending.

It is not for lack of money that the Brush-Truck and other needs go wanting, it is a lack of leadership that insures our resources are squandered. Many voted for the leaders we now have, so suffer your burdens with such insight and quietly rejoice in the knowledge that they represent the will of the people. The people of Suffolk should enjoy the fact that there is not one person on council that did not win the election in their areas and now have a vlaid claim that they represent "their people". Just ask them!

The mayor has stated that she will continue to beg. She just doesn't get it. Nobody said that Suffolk shouldn't get stimulus money. You've got the Hilton Garden Inn, the Suffolk Center for the Cultural Arts, and other nonprofit entities getting money, money, money from the citizens. Drive around Suffolk and you'll see many new trucks and vehicles owned by the city. We need to pay our own way. It is not the job of a citizen in any other state to help pay for our brush fire truck. If the truck is important, then by goodnes, pay for it!!!!!

With the way that things are run and taxes demanded and paid, what is the difference between the Taliban and our own city council, except the beards? Both groups demand payments and power over the residents. Both groups demand recognition that they know best. But only the local group has the ability to reach into my family budget year after year and attempt to truely distroy my quality of life. The other, the Taliban is far away and has little real effect, but the philosophy of both is the same! Pehaps the Mayor could grow a beard and have the Treasurer economicly behead some pro smuck economicly, by forclosing on his home for not paying back and excessive taxes!

Time for change. Time for a reality check. Time to revolt before it is to late.

The time for change has passed. It is now time to suffer our decisions and inaction.

Beg Linda, Beg! You do it at the every council meeting. You do it at every ribbon cutting and fundraiser. Begging is what you do best.

The great part about begging is you don't have to provide any assurance you'll act. All you have to do is just take and take and take.

Linda does what we put her into office to do and that is "beg for the bacon"! She has promised more and the only way for her to deliver is to beg.

Thanks Linda for your effort and for all those who just do not understand how it really works. We all need to thank Linda for her efforts, not belittle her!

Let her beg, if she will keep her hand out of my pocket. But I do not believe she will ever get tired of picking my pocket with taxes to fuel her agenda. I did not vot in this last election and that is a mistake I will not make again. I live in Riverview and will not support anyone who is already on this council.

Thank God that Linda won the election. Could you imagine Debranski begging for money? At least Linda Johnson makes enough money to know what to ask for. The question to really ask is for whom she is really asking funds for?
