Many of the treasures of Chuckatuck are or were on display at the SCCA. What concerns me about giving them donations is the prospect that one day they will be sitting before the City Manager asking for financial support in the way of my tax dollars. The Suffolk Nanasemond Historical Society (SNHS) has been addicted to the city's "generocity" for far too many years to ever again see my support. Good luck GCHF and remember to keep away from city hall and especialy Selena Cuffee-Glen.

The real question is WHO CARES!? This entire thing about "save my history with your dollars" must come to and end! Time to reel in the life-lines for the blood-sucking bottom feeders and tell them no more public money. We need to support recreation, libraries, and public safety. We need to demand funds be directed toward real government demands, not political fluff for the well connected and out-spoken.

Ms Glen should know better if she is in fact a "professional public manager". To put herself into compromising situations by showing just how poorly she undertands the needs of her own job, is not how to get the job done. The public perception of a conflict of interest by a public official, is just as damming as an actual act. Anyone in public life that does not have that in mind must be either a councilman, stupid, or both.

WARNING: To all City of Suffolk Employees. Norfolk Assistant City Manager Marcus Jones is going to Richmond. This was a well sought after position. One can only imagine the rage and retribution awaiting anyone that gets in her majesty's crosshairs.

Well what do you know. The SNHS may actually doubled their take from the city's coffer. In the past they received just over $5K. In today's SNH the City's Committee" comprised of the City Manager, Budget Officer, Chief of Staff and the Directors of Parks Recreation and Social Services agreed to increase support to $10,000. Why? Did the narrated Great Dismal Swamp trips really boost tourism? Did the SNHS ladies twist the arm of Councilman from Downtown? (Most are bigger and stronger than he is.) Or is it the season for handing out political patronage?

The real issue to tackle is why this kind of thing is even allowed to be handled in this way. Seems like there must be a better way to do things than this. I know that those who benefit from such sillyness will claim that any comment that does not support the status-quo is negative, but it is time that things like this change! To allow support for hundreds of thousands of dollars to be handed out by a small select group, without any input from the people paying the bill seems to be bad policy. Why was there no input from the people paying the bills to determine their priority and desire? This is why there is a constant call to do things other than how they are called in Suffolk. Until we get a more reasoned and inclusive approach to how these things are done, there will continue to be a call for changes and suspicion of motives!

The "Chuckatuck - your money - is History Foundation" operates just like the SCCA. Your money to protect my history! This must end now as we all know the folly of trying to send what we do not have.

These historical societies are like leaches on the butt of society. If they want to do good works, let them pay for it out of their own wallets. Time for them to get their hands out of my pocket!

My wife went doen to the SCCA to see the Glass exhibit and she had fun! She also made sure not to spend one thin dime, since we have already paid with our contribution from the City.
