WTFC A WORKING GREAT IDEA
Four Rotary clubs got together to make a generous gift of $25,000 to the Western Tidewater Free Clinic (WTFC Partnership. Through this project Rotary Club members advocate, promote volunteerism, and actively support the work of the clinic. Western Tidewater Free Clinic’s mission is to provide high-quality, non-emergency health care to residents of Western Tidewater who cannot otherwise afford it. It has been open since June 2007. Currently WTFC is improving the health and giving hope to over 760 patients. This is how assistance to charitable organizations is supposed to work. The dollars come from those who chose to donate - not from a city council who thinks that budget dollars are theirs to give to others.
Congratulations to these fine Rotary groups; I stand ready to purchase raffle tickets again at Peanut Fest and will also donate dollars for the good work you do.
The old Public Health building on North Main Street will be vacate as they move to the Fairgrounds. This would be an ideal location for the WTFC. All the needed buildouts are there. There is ample parking, easy access even by bus. The current building is being rented and bulging at the seams. Perhaps this is a project where government and citizens can work together. Lets hope so.
What we should be concerned about is the reported 43 to 50 million Americans and/or illegals that do not have or more likely choose not to have health coverage. This has become the excuse for our federal government to dig even deeper into our savings for National Healthcare. So where do we draw the line between charity and abuse? As they pass through the doors, are patients thankful for this facility or just snickering they avoided paying for insurance? Your opinions please.
