NEVER  MIND  WHERE  2010  WENT,   IT'S  2011. AND  NO  MATTER  YOUR  POLITICAL  PARTY,  THINK  CONSERVATIVE  AND  WE  WILL  MUDDLE  THROUGH.  WE  GUARANTEE AN  INTERESTING  12  MONTHS,  MAYBE  EVEN  A  PRODUCTIVE  ONE.

Are either of combatants familiar with the term  "Fight Fair ?" Time will tell.

WE WANT YOU BACK

“IS” came to life February 2008; neutral then but political events forced “IS” to admit being conservative. Under a new President with suspect credentials it became obvious that “liberal,” “progressive,” and “politically correct,” terms  were gaining too much of a foothold...becoming more acceptable to voters in both weakening political parties. When the actions of the President indicated a slide toward “Socialism,” we announced our disapproval and did what we thought necessary; we took a stand against it.

We have not changed our minds and the recent election proves a large majority of voters fear the current administration has deliberately acted in a manner that weakens the country and drives us to depend upon government for everything.  So if you picked the wrong bumper sticker two years ago you probably realize that with your help we can put the locomotive back on the rails and save tomorrow.  Surely a better year is upon us. We wish you a happy one.

GREAT SOLUTION FOR TWO PROBLEMS

Clean the air on Wilroy Road by collecting drifting stink and turning it into electricity.

H. C Yu and Associates claim the fomenting garbage air in and above our trash dump can be collected, converted to electric energy sufficient to power over 3000 homes and provide area jobs when completed, maybe ten permanent positions. It should be up and running by August to the immense relief of nearby neighbors. Even the trickle up theory is at work here. Temporary jobs for perhaps 60 construction workers plus maybe 300 more in other industries who contribute materials.

If only they could do that at the Washington House and Senate.

PLACE YOUR BETS BECAUSE BOTH ARE PREDICTED

This might not be the year but one or the other  is our destiny according to environmentalists who hedge their prognostications a smidgen. Politicians call  such an  action a caveat. But the average American pays no attention to what any of them predict for the simple reason it is decades beyond their lifetime. It is possible your great-great-great grandchildren will still be experiencing looney predictions by people with too much time on their hands.   Only one Being knows and He is not talking.

THOU SHALT BE TESTED

Exactly 14 inches of potential flood material in my yard this Monday morning covering up the fact that the deer have removed every scintilla of azalea blossoms. Like an Upper Michigan typical January day when they have put away cars and use snowmopbiles. A good day to walk your property giving now reachable branches a good shaking before they break. But don't touch that shovel, leave the white stuff alone, God will tend to that later this week. It is difficult for ambulances to get around just now, turn on the TV and spend a day with your family. The obit columns are numerous enough.

CAN NEWLY EMPOWERED FORBES TURN JEFCOM AROUND

Now that Randy Forbes has been knighted and titled Chairman of the Armed Services Readiness Committee will his meetings with General Odierno, the man with the hammer, make any difference in the amount of personnel being transferred, fired, replaced? One would imagine "Readiness" would include suggesting, convincing, demanding, forcing  the military services to work together whether defending our nation from evil doers or defeating the enemy. Apparently it takes about 3000 military and civilian "employees" to make it happen while Gates, the boss, is probably steered, driven by bureaucrats to save $$$ where possible. Surely Obama knows nothing about the military, loathes it, and would disarm the country, that is until this recent election. Maybe some second thoughts on the horizon. Working together means a lot more than say Marines under fire asking the Air Force for help. Full unhesitating cooperation is a tough goal to reach partly because of past independence....as we learned in World War II and other nation clashes since. Too many supernumeraries that had to think about it. But don't ask the Admirals and Generals to agree with that statement.

HAVING BEEN THERE

The best words ever heard in 1945 were, "The war is over." The best words heard during the eleven months of combat, and then only rarely, were "mail call." It had finally reached you, it may have been weeks. Letters had been reduced in size by what they called  V-mail. The letter had been robbed of your sweetheart's pink paper and her perfume, or your mothers little drawn stick figures meant to convey nostalgia, but it was from home, exactly  what you needed. I hope, if you had someone out of country in uniform, he or she got a letter, or will very soon. Your sympathy was with those whose names were not called and walked away dejected. If you got a letter you were in tears no matter who sent it---it was from home.

CITY MOTHERS PLAY SANTA CLAUS

The Children’s Center got a boost when they agreed to post a letter of credit with the city for the turning lanes Council insisted must be completed and partially paid for by the Center. Only then could the Center be expanded to serve more children. Jeff Zeigler, who handles community relations for them, is grateful for the enabling document that assists the Center to obtain credit from a bank up to $63,000. Zeigler suggests that not having to pay cash makes it easier. The Center had received a Grant of a million and wanted to  accept more children using that money but could not pay for the traffic improvements AND serve more children.  City Hall may have solved their problem.  At last City Hall did something Christmas like, NOT HOLIDAY LIKE..

Found this in the City News Letter. They do their best not to use the word "Christmas."

"The Suffolk Grand Illumination took place on November 19th at Market Park, right next to Seaboard Station Railroad Museum at 326 North Main Street.
The Grand Illumination featured the lighting of a 32-foot tree with thousands of sparkling white lights. Hot apple cider was on hand to ward off any "Jack Frost" nipping at your nose"

So this is a "Grand Illumination Tree." Suffolk also has a "Safety Tree" but, sorry,  no "Christmas Tree." I  imagine Easter will be renamed, "Colored Egg Season" with lots of bunnies but no reference to Christ.

ARE MANY CITY GIFTS TO PEOPLE THAT DON'T NEED IT

From the SNH

"We can always use additional finances right now,” said Leila Rice, community and media relations manager for the organization. “We are currently serving about 250 families with 500 children on any given day.”Requests for shelter typically increase in the wintertime for a number of reasons. The colder weather drives people inside. Higher utility bills strain the budgets of those already at risk for homelessness, perhaps causing them to lose their homes or apartments.

“We’re turning away about 300 families a month just because of finances,” Rice said. “We’re seeing, because of the economy, a much greater need than ever before.”

REPEALED LAW RAISES QUESTIONS

What, does “serving openly as a homosexual” mean? Is all homosexual conduct permitted, e.g. cross dressing when going to the PX? What conduct is not permitted?
Will “hate speech” policies apply to the armed forces after the repeal of the law? If a service member uses a term offensive to homosexuals, can he be charged with hate speech? Will commanders be required to take judicial action? If no judicial action is taken, will commanders be subject to civil or criminal suit by various homosexual political groups and their elected sponsors? Will the personal opinion on homosexuality of a service member become an impediment to promotion or assignment to key billets?
Are there any assignments to which homosexuals must be or may not be assigned?
Will the Senate and the House Armed Services committees demand sexuality statistics to make certain that homosexuals are being promoted at the same rate as non-homosexuals?
Will homosexuals be promoted at a faster rate to “compensate” for previous years of discrimination?

What benefits will same-sex “partners” receive? How long must one have a relationship to qualify as a partner? Will partners of homosexuals be assigned to on-base housing? Do former partners of active duty homosexuals retain dependent benefits (like a divorced spouse) when divorce is not a legal option? Will homosexual service members be permitted to date each other? Live with each other as partners in bachelor officer quarters (BOQ) or bachelor enlisted quarters (BEQ)? How does this affect fraternization regulations? Will homosexuals be deployed to countries where homosexuality is a crime? If not, who picks up the slack? What happens if a dyke lesbian insists on staying with the guys, and fighting as a man? Using their facilities etc. because “she” wants to be a man?
When enlistments are up Will we see a mass exodus of our troops? If a gay soldier is offended by a straight soldier will we see a law suit filed?

The US Census Bureau reports that about 1% of the total population is LGBT (which is short for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender), which probably translates to less than 1% in the military. And we have a congress and president (all lower case now because they don’t deserve respect) that passes laws favorable to less than 1% of the population. This country has truly degenerated from a Constitutional Republic into nothing more than a mob-ruled third world cesspool full of liberals, progressives, and the politically correct.

QUESTIONS  FORWARDED BY AC

THANK YOU MISTER PRESIDENT

America somehow was knocked off the tracks by a series of events that has lead to a gradual but sure fall into horrendous debt. Politicians have stayed in power by cowardly refusing to face up to the cost of their giveaways. The citizens, always wanting and getting more from administrations that stay popular by giving in, now find themselves guilty of passing the nations almost insurmountable debt to future generations. Even the nations physical assets are crumbling around us, roads, dams, bridges, power grids, and buildings by the thousands. Repairing or replacing these assets would provide millions of jobs. Manufacturing labor has declined here but allowed to grow in other countries because foreign employees demand less. We have been so weakened by avarice a large percentage of Americans are susceptible to the lure of Socialism as the only solution. But we are waking up, even the sorry administration is discovering the the distance we have traveled from our constitutional beginning. Those early American documents written back the late seventeen hundreds are being dusted off and read again by everyone concerned about the fate of a country once respected for its power and individual freedom that we are losing to a government allowed to go astray. Many of us have lived through wars and deep depression, we look back and remember, I look forward to what time I have left and am frightened. We have saved for the future through often difficult decades and once again find it impossible to be sure about anything except taxes and death.

NEW CITY HALL A DONE DEAL

THIS IS A POST WE PRINTED LAST SEPTEMBER  9/24/10.  THE ONLY CHANGE IS THE COST

They know where it will be, how much it will cost, exactly what they want in it, and the City Mothers were seen in a fabric shop picking out curtain material. It will require at least $37,500,000 dollars, probably ours, and a way to pay for it will magically appear after the Finance Director realizes Council is serious about this. Best estimates for repairs  is about 17 million. We have not heard what will happen to Old City Hall. It could be  retrofitted and made suitable for future city departments necessary for additional paper work as Obama’s Social System grows.  You can’t just stop government but it could be disastrous to allow employees and taxpayers to continue treading those weakening floors; what to do in the meantime, limit the weight of personnel? One thing  to consider is purchasing an abandoned JfCom building in North Suffolk where they really wanted to be until Gates closed the gate on that rapidly expanding empire.  You  will be proud of your new City on  Washington Street, soon the place to be. Think about it...new Social Services  Center, new Police  precinct, the coming Fairgrounds Apartments, and now a new City Hall with a guaranteed  one stop shop for small business entrepreneurs. Are you for repairing the building or building a new one?

SORRY, TOO LATE NOW

“Months before signing legal documents assuring federal officials they could build Norfolk's starter light rail for $232 million, Hampton Roads Transit leaders knew it would actually cost tens of millions of dollars more, a new state investigation reveals.
In fact, HRT senior officials at one time maintained a separate, internal accounting of light-rail costs that was intentionally kept "secret" from government entities footing the bills, documents show. Then bids came in, construction began and costs continued to climb, without notice to many stakeholders, state investigators said. The current price tag: $338 million. HRT's former leader, Michael Townes, was forced to resign earlier this year. Several other HRT employees with the project have left the agency. Light rail's champion on the City Council, W. Randy Wright, was defeated at the polls.”
From the Virgina Pilot.”

The point is that too often prominent citizens, those with money, influence, assumed or alleged expertise are elected or appointed to important commissions, committees, boards, or elected offices and later discovered to have been disingenuous, outright liars, or incompetent. Candidates are usually vetted by each other so there is ample room to believe it was not a thorough investigation. When problems surface it is too late like the example above.  It appears, by the numerous firings and resignations over the past years Suffolk has had its share of similar activity.  We will allow you, as interested citizens to point out the rights or wrongs where you had no part in decisions.
