Debbie George had a great opinion piece in the SNH this morning pointing out the "not to be sniffed at" growth in our city, downtown and other locations. She cited projects requiring millions to upgrade facilities necessary to improving life in Suffolk and credited our City Council for its great thinking. She might have added thanks to the tax payers.
We are up to here with City new motto suggestions. We'd like someone to be serious; we just might please the committee with a good one, one that will last. Set aside your humor and tongue in cheek offerings. You could become famous.

Why even mention the tax-payers, since in the elite pay scale that Ms George finds herself in she needs only cash her big checks on our dime. This was nothig less than a puff-piece from the mayor who is getting a beating in the press for her lack of perfomance and honesty. I am offended that our highly paid propaganda chief finds it necessary to mouth the words of the mayor to justify her fialed policies.
The salary that Ms. George is be paid is mindboggling. Unbelievable.
What an endoresement from the likes of Debbie George. Her honesty, sincereity and likeability can only be matched by those in the White House Staff. Why did she do it now is now in question. Are there cracks in city halls wall of silence, issues like mayor's conflict of interest or is time for another job performace appraisal and pay review.
If Gibbs quits Debbie would be the perfect excusionist for Obama. She should go for it, Suffolk's too backwards for likes of her talent and intellect. Go Debbie GO!
If our city has that large a surplus doesn't that mean we are over-taxed?Also those city salaries are very high for a city of less than 100,000 people.Does anyone care?
I am still not quite sure why everyone seems to bad mouth Debbie George. She is the city spokeswoman and as such, she puts out the message her bosses want her to put out. It seems kind of silly that people think she should spout off at the mouth, piss off her bosses, and lose her job while doing so. Here is a suggestion...go to work, tell your boss he is an idiot and that you are going to do what you want no matter what he says...and have fun collecting unempoyment. I do not disagree with some of the sentiments in regard to the city and the mayor, but to trash Debbie for doing her job is pretty mindless.

TO JPQ,
The comments only deal with the fact that DEBBIE is such a "Kool-Aide Drinker" when she is doing her job.
She seems to believe so hard that she take other's and demonizes them for just speaking out and that is what many find unpalitable about how Debbie does her job. She is paid a good amount to be a professional and she seems to fail more often than not. A professional would find a way to avoid the more "politic" way that things are done in Suffolk as the mouth-piece for our City. Her real boss is those of us that pay her sallary and she seems to forget that fact!
Someone should take Little Debbie out for a couple ala Obama then you'll probably hear her unfettered opinion. What was written in her office was a puff piece of propaganda. Why she wrote it is obvious and worthy of public criticism.
Little Debbie controls the city's media releases. She hand fesds the SNH's reporters cleansed news details and has yet to comment on the dark side of city council's actions.
No new city slogan right now - and certainly do not spend a hundred thousand dollars or more on this. The communications staff should do this - otherwise why are you needed?
We should have the following motto:
"Suffolk - A city in search of more"
-More of your money
-More of your time
-More of your belief
-More of your blind obiediance
-More of your lack of interest in just how screwed we are getting
This entire exercise is work that is being pushed to justify wny we pay so much for everything in Suffolk
Hey Deb when you come out of hiding in your office or the ladies room here are some city mottos you could consider:
Suffolk, What's Next?
The City Where Mine is Mine and Your's is Negotiable.
It's a Good Time to be Leaving Suffolk.
Suffolk Mountains of Garbage to Pay for.
Hold Your Tongue or Get Fired.
The People's Democratic Republic of Suffolk.
The Open and Transparent City of Suffolk.
King's Highway Bridging Our Communities.
I just saw the photo in the Pilot that showed the burgler in the IHOP Resturant on North Main Street and recognized it was big Debby. Perhaps a moonlighting hit to add to the city coffers?
She'll write another opinion piece for the SNH about how the IHOP crime spree was solved with the guidance, forsight and critical thinking powers of the city manager. They'll lap it up without question.
Deb, when you eventually emerge from hiding here are more slogan contenders.
Suffolk, Going for Broke
Our City Manager is Smart
Suffolkating the Future
No Dollar Left Unspent
Explosive Growth, Exploding Taxes
Suffolk, Got Education?
Home of Welfare for the Rich
We Simulate Reality
Suffolk, A Developer's Paradise
Big City, Small Thinkers
You forgot the most telling one: "Stupid is as stupid does"
Suffolk: "Isn't It Time You Were Disappointed Again?"
Debster consider these for a city slogan:
What's in Your Wallet
Suffolk It's About the Water
Hope for a Little Change
Cheating Indians for 400 years
Suffolk, We're Nuts
How about:
Suffolk Peanut Fest, where we eat your taxes.
Suffolk, a downtown place, so long as you can pay.
Suffolk, where we roast nuts.
Suffolk, the land of nuts and fruits.
Suffolk, big pay for peanuts.
Suffolk, a job half done.
Suffolk, where a deal is not a deal.
Suffolk, a warehouse community.
Suffolk, where cheating is fine sport.
Suffolk, where it is like Christmas all year for developers.
Suffolk, a historical wasteland
And the list grows and grows.
The list of slogans continues:
Enjoy What's Left of the Great Dismal Swamp
Your Destination for Lost Tourists
Our Dropout Rate is Getting Better
No Business Left Unfettered
The Last Home of the Good Ole Boys
Only Good News Comes from Our Media
Straight Shooting Communications
Suffolk, What's in it for Me?
Hampton Road's Biggest Ghost Town
Wasnt sure where to post this but here we go.
Chesapeake is on a deadline of December to acquire LAND or lose it's permit to build the water pipline. Gee, havent heard a thing about this until now. Say what 45 days or so to find and purchase this land? Since the city of Suffolk is full of professional land brokers working part time for supposedly for the good of the city, You think that they knew of this potential LAND purchase way before this announcement NAWWWWWWW Remember the rush to CENTERPOINT? This already is starting to stink. Maybe the new motto could be SUFFOLK; You need land We got land. Or SUFFOLK; No conflicts of interest here
and the winner is.......
