JUST SO YOU KNOW

Special collection refers to the removal of large bulky items and other items that are too large to fit in the container to include: appliances, furniture, mattresses, yard waste, debris, and boxes.
All residences within the City having public roadway access receive free collection for household refuse weekly. Instituting a fee for the collection of bulk refuse will assign the cost to the users rather than the entire population. The fees for Special Collections: (A) - 1 to 8 cubic yards = $20 (+ $3) (B) - 9 to 16 cubic yards = $50 (+ $5) (C) - Evictions = $100 (+ $7)
The cost for the service must be paid for in advance. Residents who desire bulk collection may call the Sanitation Office at 514-7630 & may pay in several ways: - Pay in person at one of the City Treasurer’s offices (441 Market Street or the North Suffolk Library) - By calling the City Treasurer’s office at 514-4275; a convenience fee of $3 to $7 will apply for residents who desire to pay using a credit/ debit card - By mailing payment to the City Treasurer, P. O. Box 1583, Suffolk, VA 23439 (PLEASE PUT DISPOSAL # ON CHECK) Residents need to pay for the service a minimum of 48 hours prior to their regular refuse collection day.

“I’ve spent the last two weeks looking at piles of trash,” Johnson said. “We’re going to have to do something.” Since a new fee for bulk trash pickup was instituted in July, Johnson said, she has noticed more piles of refuse in front of homes that are not picked up. “I just kept thinking they would go away,” Johnson said of the piles.

A good commentary on how disconnected our Mayor is. Perhaps like Dorothy in the "Wizard of OZ" she can click her heels together and make it go away.

Leadership in Suffolk has fallen to an all time low since Steve Herbert was fired. HE stood up to low-lifes who make the city only work for themselves. Just look at how our Mayor and her husband benefit from her being mayor and you understand all. I only pine for the possiblility that Debranski or Powell could have been mayor. Johnson has failed in the job and instead should be the director of Cheerleaders and she has no idea how to be mayor. To prove it, jsut a few months ago the city had a tight budget and now we find that we over-paid and they did not even know about it until someone outside our local government told them so. But, they have the gall to charge us all for trash pickup. Talk about poor government, we can find it at the doorstep of our mayor and her coddled henchmen as others have said.

How strange the Mayor doesn't understand garbage. As predicted here at Inside Suffolk piles have appeared along roadsides, in ditches and front yards. When citizens ask why theirs hasn't been picked up they suddenly realize they've been duped into paying yet another fee. Now we hear regular garbage pick ups could be charged. The public outcry will deafen the ears of city council and the city manager.
