TWO SHARP BUSINESSMEN APPOINTED TO EDA
Congrats to appointers for convincing John D.Eure, Jr. and Mike Duman to take seats on our EDA. Both are real businessmen with long experience and they understand the growing pains that go with establishing and maintaining excellent public relations. Both are for sensible growth and government transparency. Their business reputations are excellent and both are well known by the citizens.

These gentlemen are the best individuals to direct Suffolk's future.
They have a broad local business background.
They understand the importance of attracting and keeping business here.
They have knowledge of pre-owned cars and rental housing to move our economic community forward.
Good picks for sure! If only we could get our council to do such appointmetns to all of our boards and commissions with such insight. The EDA has suffered with limited thinkers for to long in the past and many opportunities have been lost on business deals that are to short-sighted and lacking to say the least. The other thing that is in need of recognition is that a good pick does not mean that only those who agree with or are in favor with the council should be appointed. There are many in the community with much to offer who are disqualified, just because they do not agree with all that council does or says.
Think, say, respond is the way it should work, as it did with these two fine gentlemen. Congrats to them and a fine Thanks to council for thinking before giving away an important position! Please do it again!
Both of these gentlemen are wasting their time on the EDA, We need them on council! The present hacks are terrible and we need new blood at the helm!
Duman may be gearing up for a City-Council run. I haven't heard that from any one, just a guess. But he would be a great addition. No one can deny that. A sharp businessman with good morals.
Now if only Dwight Nixon could find his niche somewhere else - i.e. not on the EDA
We need people like Duman to run. The idiots we now have on council are a real embarassment! They may be nice people, but have little idea of what to do and how to guide our City. Just look at all the hoop-la over moving the Christmas Parade alone. They are letting Downtown die and spending unfairly on up north in Govenor's Point and Harbor View. The Mayor is the only one that seems to know what she wants and that is to move it all up north. The reason the Old-City and south get nothing is the weak minds like Millteer. This idiot just never knows when to keep his mouth shut and just sleep in his chair. Gardy is outright stupid, and Parr is to busy trying to make a buck by burying us all to look out for us. Then there is my favorite, Developer Charles Brown. This guy is dangerous as he is so ignorant and biligerent that he usually is looking to hook a deal that is good for him, not us. And that about rounds out our reps to the south. Now is there any question why we don't get anything? Class is over for now!
Cedar Point, Harborview, Bennetts Creek and Governor's Point all pay a higher assessments than neighboring sub-divisions. They pay their way. If downtown is dying it's not because of any fault of the public. Our city has and is dropping millions of precious tax dollars with very little to show for it outside of bricks, cement and sidewalks. The parade moving may signal the end for downtown or an awakening. It's up to the downtowners to make that call. No matter what is done to beautify their corner of the city, Downtowners will continue to be paranoid with the North side.
Many hope that Mike Duman jumps in for the borough seat. He lives in the Borough of Chuckatuck but could be construed as one of those money grubbing North Suffolkians as catagorized by some downtowners. I disagree with this class warfare them versus us mentality. He has bootstrapped himself to become one of the few sucessful businessmen in Suffolk not dependent on government or development.
Duman is the logical replacement for Barlow. Gardy will either choose not to run again or be defeated, and Parr will probably have at least one opponent - I have heard first and second hand of other possible opponents. Brown will face minimal-to-no opposition.
Looks like January 2011 will bring as many as 3 new councilman to the table. Probably only two, as I think Parr will be re-elected.
I voted to re-elect Jones in 2006. Nothing against Gardy, but it's just tough to be reelected in his borough. It is so diverse with much of the land located in the rural part of town, and much of the population living in the 58 corridor. But hey, those were May elections, and now that they are in November anything can happen.
If Mike Duman runs, he will win. He is not only a good man, but well known enough to get he job done right. I hope he does decide to run and I will support him in any way I can. As for PARR and Brown, I think both should go. Parr will be challenged and Brown will not. I only hope that Parr has only one opponent so we can try to get rid of him! If to many enter the reace against him, he will win like we saw in the mayors race. Brown, we are just stuck with due to lack of anyone else.
I hope his campaign slogan is "The Du-man can", just like in his old tv commercials.
Mike Duman says he isn't "planning" on a city council run, BUT I'll bet he could be convinced. He could be the best thing to happen to Suffolk, since the Civil War ended!!! New blood, with a fresh outlook. His honesty, integrity, morality, and business acumen are beyond reproach. Let's get working on him, NOW!!! The Du-man Can.
If Duman bails out of running his fellow EDA appointee by Linda Johnson, Attorney Jack Eure would make an excellent council candidate for the Chuckatuck Borough.
He is a long time resident with connections in the community like the SCCA and understands how business is done in the city. Lets support one of these leaders to join our council in 2010.
Mr. Eure is too much of a true "Southern Gentleman" to make it on city council. "It is hard to soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by a bunch of turkeys" kinda thing, with Barclay and Barlow as the exception. Smart and compassionate. EDA should feel lucky to have him and Mr. Duman as members.
