THIS GEM FOUND IN THE SNH TODAY

"When it comes to properly funding education in our country, we find ourselves working off a broken system, a system slowed by bureaucracy, special interests, bloated systems and unrealistic expectations. In recent months we have challenged our school leaders to examine every expenditure down to the penny. We have challenged them to look at every administrative salary, validate every perk or fluff in the budget. And, we have asked that every savings found, every penny picked up in the parking lot, be reinvested into the classroom, into teacher salaries and advanced programs."

We can all agree on the "broken system." But the question remains...what percentage of the budget is NOT spent on teachers.

A quick trip to the SPS Offices with a request for a hard copy of the budget proves invaluable in determining where what and who gets the bulk of the budget.
What is painfully obvious is NO ONE on the School Board has a business background or working knowledge of budgeting. So they default authority to Liverman's staff to prepare what is a worthless complilations of wish lists. Again I will state as a resident in the Borough of Chuckatuck that it is time One Room School House Whitley to retire.

We learn from the past. You cannot substitute experience. To put down Mr. Whitley after what all he has contributed to our school system is pretty harsh. Who ever wrote the first comment, you are not a nice person.

Anon 5:12, we have had enough of Whitley and his inability to do anything but go along to get along. If you want the status quo for our children, the continued deterioration of the quality of education while Whitley warms a School Board seat for four more, then it is you that is not a nice person. We must have someone that will push themselves and the school administration to get things done right. Whitley go back to your one room school house and go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. It's time for you to retire.

Being NICE is not the issue. We must have effective leadership from our elected representatives. Can't say that about anyone. If your "feelings" were hurt too bad. For a change how about thinking instead of feeling.

Thinking and feeling are certainly 2 different means to approach an unsettled situation. The way to remedy the problem is at the voting booth, not by insubordinate remarks to a respected educator for so many years. But again, the disenchanted must voice their opinion in a harmful manner. I'm sure these such people call themselves good Christians. Right Brothers?

Ah, ah, ah, always remember we must keep Christianity out of the dialogue when it comes to discussing public schools.

I agree Whitley has done an outstanding job while on the School Board over the years he's done.......and then he sucessfully.........the list of his unaccomplishments is endless. He's so strong a supporter of education that he and his fellow board members failed to show up at the SCCA. Maybe he forgot, doesn't care or he's afraid to be confronted by angry parents, teachers, administrators and students. He should be, he's been warming that seat for far too long. With nothing to show for it. If this is an example of a respected educator then we need alternatives to failing government school systems. Back to the school house for him with an "F" in civics.

Leaving Christianity out of public schools dialogue, could not agree more. Dr. Liverman used to start school board meetings with a demominational prayer. Does he still? Isn't he suppose to be educated?

Obama-Akbar said...

This is outragious! You said Christianity but you didn't mention Islam. Maybe in the privacy of his office Dr. Liverman faces towards the Obama White House and kneels on a prayer rug five times a day. He'll need to recite everyone if he wants "his" budget to pass.

Why do leftists hate children so much?
One indication that moonbattery is not just misguided but evil is that progressives have an obsession with corrupting children. This is why, under our Hopey Changey regime of pure moonbattery, our federal "Safe Schools Czar" is a militant pervert associated with NAMBLA. It's also the reason for this:

A new report by the International Planned Parenthood Federation is advocating that children as young as 10 be given extensive sex education, including an awareness of sex's pleasures.
This latest push to sexualize 10-year-olds provides yet another opportunity for moonbats to open fire on Christianity, which they once again equate with Islam. Complains the federally funded abortion mill's report (PDF):

Young people's sexuality is still contentious for many religious institutions. Fundamentalist and other religious groups the — Catholic Church and madrasas (Islamic schools) for example — have imposed tremendous barriers that prevent young people, particularly, from obtaining information and services related to sex and reproduction. Currently, many religious teachings deny the pleasurable and positive aspects of sex and limited guidelines for sexual education often focus on abstinence before marriage…
Understandably, since abstinence does not produce costumers, Planned Parenthood disapproves of it — even among children.

According to PP, their 10-year-old potential customers are "sexual beings" in need of "comprehensive sexuality education." Therefore sex ed should present sexuality as a "positive force for change and development, as a source of pleasure, an embodiment of human rights and an expression of self."
Progressives want children to be sexually active so they can have what Obama said were "mistakes." Having these "mistakes" will allow Progressive parents to rush their children down the the nearest Planned Parenthood for that abortion. More money for Planned Parenthood. Margaret Sanger would be proud of his Progressive lunatics. Hoe long will it be before Liverman adopts teaching such as this?

Well, Dr. Liverman is an ordained minister - at East End, I think.

In the South being a Minister and Black has become one and the same. It's become a second profession like being White and a Realtor.

Did I mis-read the SNH headlines last week or was teenage pregnancies up last year. The progressives in the Suffolk Public School System and School Board's endoresement of sex education programs must be working. Any comments from the pro-Whitley crowd? Does he have a comment or will he just sit there silent and be called a "respected educator".

Instead of blaming Mr. Whitley on the teenage pregnacy issue, how about blaming the parents of these girls or the girls themselves. The cycle of one parent homes has been going on for how many generations now? It seems to be the norm, but let's blame the educators. Really, who should take responsibility?
And here we go again with Toasted Cracker. What a prejudice statement. A racist no doubt. Hate must emcompass his small world. See you in church Toasted Cracker.

Our elected officials do not clearly understand that once they win an election, they do not become gods.

They were all citizens, just like us, prior to our requesting that they represent us in government, because we have more important things to do.

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City, N.C.

In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do As I Say And Not As I Do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Typical politician?

Anon 11:22 how much is being spent on sex education in the Suffolk Public School System? Who approved the programs? Who is sheparding the funding? Will someone over there is the lost world of SPS please stand up and be accountable?
Who's your Daddy?

We the citizens of Suffolk pay about $10,000 per student per year to be educated in a failed school system. Everyone of you school employees are to blame no exception. Don't point your finger at the parents, or city council or the administration. That game ended a long time ago. It didn't work then and it sure doesn't work now. Anyone that dares speak in favor of an incumbent School Board member, shame on them and all in their house.

If the minimum standards can't be obtained for school accredidation then take the little fellows out and home school them or find another school. What does it take to knock some sense into you people. See you in the classroom.

Please, do not hurt the self-esteem of School Board member Whitley. He and the others have done a great job building the minds and ambitions of the thousands of young people in the government school system. Our children now aspire to lawncare, forlift operators and pig part pullers in Smithfield. They did this while the dropout rate in Suffolk became one of the highest in the state, teenage pregnancies shot up, the budget exploded and allowed the administration to run roughshod over them. One Room School House Whitley and Chairman Skeeter need to define their accomplishments and answer the questions the citizens are asking without the help of Dr. Liverman and his very well paid staff.

Suffolk Schools lack of success is a direct comment of the "Way Suffolk" is run! Just look to the mayor as a prime example of how deals come first, the needs of the power borakers next, the friends of the council next, and last are the people and their kids. Nothing new here, just how it has been done in Suffolk since I was a kid, but now done with a sharp and hard attitude since mayor johnson has been in charge. I will not put her name in Capital Letters as I do no respect here performance enough to do so. She has been a failure from the first day she took the chair of mayor and we all know that, but some get payoff, help and a feeling that thye are paid so they go along with her. Just look to parr for a prime example of that thinking. His role on council has been to parlay his seat, to power for his own financial interests and we all know about that from his land deal on Turlington Road and others.

We are a dysfunctional city with selfish and power drunk people in charge and it is starting to really show. Our Schools are failing, business is down, people are getting discouraged and we are suffering. Time to throw off the yoke of bad government and selfish politicians for people that do care about more than their own needs and that means getting rid of johnson, parr, gardy, brown, milteer, barlow, bennett, and we will see about Barclay. He seems to have potential, but is meek about crossing the needs and wants of the mayor. Will he be a leader of a field-mouse? Time will tell.

While we are blaming Mr. Whitley and company for teenage pregnacies and the high drop-out rate, why not add to his list all the obese kids, teenage crime, unemployment, the high divorce rate, employed people paying for welfare, public housing and food stamps for all those babies born out of wedlock? Shame on you Mr. Whitley. Oh yes, we can blame the state of the economy on you too.

Lets just examine the past twelve months. There was the repeated accredidation failures of Suffolk schools, the rise in teenage pregnancies even with free condom and sex-ed programs. Suffolk has one of the highest drop out rates in the state and the School Board is unable to manage the SPS budget. All these occurred on Whitley's watch. He hasn't said a word to deny it because it's true. He could have done something about these issues, but he didn't. He should have demanded answers and action as the Vice Chairman but he didn't. He's run as a rubber stamp candidate for the School Board with no platform, vision or message. Just another good ole boy with time on his hands and nothing to do.
